Faculty get closer to God on day of reflection

Everyone needs a couple hours away from their daily routines to reflect upon their lives and converse with God. This is exactly what MC’s faculty will be doing to start off their Thanksgiving Break.

Mount Carmel’s annual faculty retreat will be held at the Catholic Theological Union in Hyde Park on Wednesday, November 26th from  8:30 am -12:00 pm. Leading the retreat will be Mr. Terry Stadler, a 1965 alum from MC, who recently retired from his role in pastoral ministry at CTU. Stadler will lead all faculty members in theological reflection on the ministry of Catholic Education.

Fr. Tony Mazurkiewicz, MC president,  compares the retreat to Kairos, as the format and concept are the same. Like Kairos, everyone will gather in small groups led by a few faculty members to discuss and reflect on the topics presented by Stadler. Fr. Tony believes this retreat will allow faculty to reflect on values behind Catholic education, and better integrate those values into their curriculum. “We as educators at a Catholic school take a step back to take a look at our own faith and see what role God plays in our lives.”

Among those faculty members looking forward to the retreat is Mr Jon Nelson. I think it’ll be a good time to evaluate the things and people I’m thankful for.”

Others, such as Theology teacher Mr. Dan Burke, thinks it’s a good idea in general to get away from everything. “It’s good when we can get together as a faculty; we can back away from our regular curriculum and routines to refuel ourselves.”
