No school can outdo MC at showing spirit

When it comes to school spirit, I believe there is no school like Mount Carmel. The Caravan show their presence at every school event. However, football is the most up-beat due to the excitement and intensity of the sport. Stadiums fill up if Mount Carmel is involved; we as a community support our brothers in battle.

Over the years I have seen some remarkable games. Each game is amped by the students in the crowd cheering for the Caravan. Longevity serves a purpose at our school. Alumni and supporters have the spirit too; they sacrifice to help us out in ways that are astounding – contributing to the different programs, putting money towards the school for newer technology and buildings, etc.

One game that I will never forget is this year’s Mount Carmel game at St. Rita. The stadium was packed, the bleachers were overcrowded, and the volume in the stadium was incredible. At on point, the excitement reached such a peak that MC students, fueled by adrenaline, pressed forward and broke through the fence separating the bleachers from the field.  Football games have the whole student body on edge. As the weekend approaches, everyone asks,”Who do we play next?” As the playoffs draw near, students enthusiasm rises because the state championship is within arm’s length.

Sports aren’t the only way Mount Carmel students show our school spirit. Events like the homecoming dance and spirit week contribute to the excitement. We have organized St. Baldrick’s Day when students are given the opportunity to shave their heads to support cancer research. We also have an event which we call “The Just Because Games” when all the students gather to play silly games. The four classes battle it out to see which one is the best, mentally and physically.  A team of students from each class is picked to participate in the event. Seniors go up against the sophomores and the freshmen go against juniors.  Teams are supported by their class. I’m sure that the cheering and chanting can be heard from outside the building.

MC has school spirit, not only during the sports seasons but throughout the whole year. Visit Mount Carmel and you’ll feel the connectivity of the school as soon as you step through the door.
