Another “Rocky” classic punches into theaters

In the seventh edition of the famous movie “Rocky, Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone (a.k.a. Rocky Balboa) star in the latest dramatic thriller “Creed.

Adonis Creed (Jordan), steps into the ring in the footsteps of his father Apollo Creed (who is modeled after Muhammad Ali, who was the world heavyweight champion and considered the greatest boxer ever). For those of you who don’t know, in Rocky IV Creed died in the ring fighting a ferocious Russian boxer by the name of Ivan Drago. As a result, Adonis has never known his father.

Complicating his personal life, Adonis’ mother also died when he was very young. Growing up under the name Adonis Johnson (or “Donnie”), he found himself bouncing in and out of foster homes. This led to monumental anger issues and violent outbreaks which he channeled into an everlasting passion for – boxing.

Johnson eventually gets adopted – only to find out that his adoptive mother is actually Apollo Creed’s widow. This is when he ultimately learns the truth about his real father as well as himself. Trying to establish his own name as a professional fighter, Donnie lands in Philadelphia, where he eventually comes face to face with his father’s long time “frenemy,” Rocky Balboa (modeled after Chuck Wepner).

Now training under the legendary Balboa, Creed prepares for the fight of his life. His opponent, ‘Pretty’ Ricky Conolan (played by Tony Bellew), is currently the undefeated world champion with a total of 32 KO’s opposed to Creed’s 15, so there’s no question this will be the fight of Donnie’s life.

The fight is spectacularly shot, amazingly detailed, and in my opinion, the best part of the movie. There are a lot of other important scenes that I have not mentioned that add up to making this action – packed adventure as incredible as it is. This is a must see for anyone who is a fan of the “Rocky” series. You will just have to check it out for yourself.
