Faculty alums maintain traditions

Coach Frank Lenti, ’69 is one of 17 alumni working at MC.

One thing that is often said about Mount Carmel is, “You don’t go through Mount Carmel, Mount Carmel goes through you.” Many don’t realize this until after graduation. It is then that you realize what Mount Carmel did for you.

Whether it’s wearing the same ID lanyards since ’04, or still holding the pep rallies in the old gym, there are many traditions that keep the continuity alive at MC. But the real glue in MC tradition is that many faculty and staff remain the same.  Mr. Kevin Taylor, Coach Frank Lenti, Coach Mark Antonetti, and Mr. Doug Awe are among the 32 faculty members who have been here for more than 10 years. They are among the many who can attest to the ways MC holds true to tradition.

“The enthusiasm of the students has been the exact same since I’ve gotten here,” says Mr. Dara Behzadi, another long time teacher at MC. Coach Lenti, who entered his 31st year of coaching this year at Mount Carmel, states, “I love impacting lives of these young men.  When they get into the real world, we want to make sure that Mount Carmel prepared them for this task.” Lenti, who himself is an alum of MC (Class of ’69), firmly believes that he learned how to become a man at 6410 Dante.

Seventeen: the number of faculty members whose children or husbands are alumni of MC. They also see how MC has impacted their lives, and they want to help make it the same experience for the men here now. Some have seen their own kids graduate and some will see them accomplish this in years to come, and their hope is for them to have the same experience that they had.

There is a reason why so many alumni give back and support Mount Carmel in everything that we do. They realize what MC did for them. The reason why so many attend the sporting events is they want to see if the players now are living up to the tradition.

“Drink the water, but remember who dug the well.” This is a quote above a water fountain in Mount Carmel. It is stating that you must remember who struggled and worked at it before you, not only to help Mount Carmel become the best it can be, but so you can have an experience of a lifetime.
