Social media is taking over the minds of many, often distracting us from the person right next to us.

Social media seems to be taking over the world day by day, due to its advanced features and easy accessibility.

As times change, technology  is rapidly rearranging itself to make our lives more convenient. Making life “easier” seems to be the goal for the designers of these websites. Social media is widely known for its easy communication system.

Adults, teenagers, and children all have access to different websites, such as Facebook, Instagram, KIK Messenger, Snapchat, and Twitter. Websites like these make it possible to keep up with people’s movements and day to day activities 24 hours a day.

Although using these sites is convenient, some people don’t use them as carefully and responsibly as possible. Mount Carmel does its job by teaching the students how to use these different sites correctly and responsibly. During studium, faculty members have talked to all grade levels about using websites wisely.

One faculty member, Mr. Antonio Mota, emphasized the issue of cyber-bullying, the importance of using social media “responsibly,” and treating others how we want to be treated.

Cyber-bullying is an issue that has been around since the creation of social media. Many users partake in cyber-bullying; they rely on social media to settle their disputes or disagreements.

Many Mount Carmel students, like senior Tom Jones, agree that social media is “great,” but should be used in a more suitable manner. “I think social media is mostly good, but there are times where it gets out of hand. Arguments and bullying, people forget that it is not that important; it’s designed to be recreational.”
