Seniors ready to begin a new chapter in life

The high school journey is coming to an end for seniors at Mount Carmel as they get ready to graduate and take that next big step, which is college. The Mount Carmel community is proud of its students and makes it a priority to see them go to college.

Over the years Mount Carmel has seen thousands of students go off to college to pursue different goals. More than 50 of this year’s seniors already have committed to a college, many choosing to study out of the state. However, some students decided to stay close to home to be closer to family and for financial reasons.

Seniors Lawrence Cochran, Zachary Winder, Malik Carpenter, and Myles Talton are all staying in Chicago. Cochran will be attending Tribeca Flashpoint Media Arts Academy, Winder will be attending Chicago State University along with Carpenter, who will be continuing his baseball career at CSU, and Talton will be attending DePaul University.

The thought of embarking on a new journey has gotten many students nervous, but it also gets them excited knowing the future will hold many adventures.

Carpenter has had his eyes on CSU for a while now, and he’s excited for a new beginning. “College has never scared me, I’ve always been a cool and collected guy.”

Winder, on the other hand,  acknowledges that the transition will be difficult, but is grateful that he won’t have to experience it alone.

“I am super nervous, knowing that I’ll be leaving home. Fortunately, I’ll be extremely close and I have friends like Malik Carpenter who will be there.

Although many students know what the next yea will brning, some are undecided on what they want to pursue after high school. Carl McFerren doesn’t know exactly what he will be doing, but plans on going to college at some point. He “I know what I want to do, I know what I love to do, I just don’t know if I am ready yet.”
