Time winds down for Class of 2015

As time is winding down with only three school days remaining, the Class of 2015 is anxious to finalize its academic journey at Mount Carmel. After four years of hard work, the seniors are excited to be moving on.

Several events are coming up in honor of the seniors, including prom at Navy Pier on Saturday, May 9, the senior barbecue which takes place May 22 after graduation rehearsal, and most importantly, graduation at Rockefeller Chapel on he campus f the University of Chicago on May 24.

As these events draw near, there is a lot of excitement and anticipation about the things in store.

Senior Nik Giles has positive expectations for the 24th and is thrilled for the celebration.

“Graduation couldn’t come any faster, and I can’t wait. For me graduation isn’t just about leaving and being done with school . . . it will finalize our change from entering as boys to leaving as men of Carmel.”

As far as prom goes, everything seems to be going well as the seniors plan a special a special evening for their dates.

Prom will begin with dinner in the Crystal Gardens of Navy Pier, followed by lots of dancing in the ballroom, conversations and plenty of photos. Students must arrive by 7:30 p.m. and remain until 11:30 p.m.   About 80 couples will attend prom in nice attire, and some will even arrive in limousines.

One of those, Thomas Swenson, believes prom will be a huge night to remember as it’ll be one of the last times he’ll see most of his classmates before they go off to further their own path.  “Seeing my friends and having a good time will always stay with me.”

The Friday after prom will be preparation for the big day followed by a celebratory barbecue. Rehearsal will begin at 9:00 a.m when students will run through the procedure for their commencement. Seniors will also receive extra tickets for families who plan to bring more members.

After rehearsal concludes, students will return to Mount Carmel for their final barbecue, spending one last afternoon with their classmates as a whole.

All in all, seniors seem to agree that their career at Mount Carmel has been a great experience, but moving on is a privilege.

As Martin Kelly put it, “Mount Carmel has prepared me for my next step in life through hard work, discipline, friendships and responsibility.”
