In spring 2015, the Caravan enjoyed a beautiful day as they hiked along Lake Shore Drive in the annual Walkathon.

In just a little under a month, on Friday, April 29th, MC will hold its annual Walkathon fundraiser.  Just like in previous years, the Walkathon is a student event in which each participant walks and/or runs approximately nine miles along Lake Shore Drive. According to Mr. Rick Good, who coordinates the event, the money is used to support students and their families facing unexpected financial hardships, and to provide all students with enhanced resources and learning opportunities (classroom advancements, scholarships, tuition assistance, etc.).

According to another member of the Walkathon Committee, Mr. Ian Secviar, the Walkathon also builds investment in the school from the future alumni, encourages the students to interact and unite with their peers, alumni, and community, and creates long lasting memories.

Last year’s Walkathon goal, which the school did exceed, was $50,000, with each student required to raise $75. However, this year’s goal has been increased to $60,000. Each student is required to raise $100 towards a Studium goal of $2,500.

While the Walkathon is a long-standing tradition, this year’s approach will be quite different from the past. What traditionally was an individual fundraising challenge, now will be more community oriented.

As of this year, in addition to individual solicitations, Mount Carmel students will be able to raise funds through a webpage and social media. Each studium has its own dedicated page and all links can be found at www.MCHS.org/Walkathon. Students can share their goals with family and friends via email or text through the studium’s webpage link.

Each stadium also will ultimately participate in a phone-a-thon with an alumni class with whom they will be matched.

In their efforts to raise funds, students can also Tweet, Facebook, or Instagram their fundraising page by using #MCWalks.
