On the morning of Tuesday, September 26, 2017, Mount Carmel Principal John Haggerty announced that seniors  McLean Milavickas, Zachary Pasciak and Luke Ehrenstrom would be named Commended Students in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program.  A Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) will be presented to these three outstanding students.

Across the nation, 34,000 students are being commended and recognized for their outstanding academic achievements. These students are not going to be participating in the 2018 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, but they will be placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.6 million Commended Students.

Ms. Huda Hamdan, a counselor at Mount Carmel High School, says, “What sets these three young men apart from the rest of the AP students is that they have different and more interests than others. This has obviously paid off as they have received awards for what they do.”

Zack Pasciak is honored to have received this award. “It feels nice that my hard work has been recognized. I am very proud of myself for having received this distinction.”
