John Kozlar, a 2007 graduate of Mount Carmel High School, is one of 14 candidates currently running for mayor of Chicago.  Kozlar visited his high school alma mater on February 19 to speak to the Chicago History class taught by Mr. Scott Sortal.
According to his campaign website  (www.johnkozlar.com), Kozlar graduated from Mark Sheridan Academy on Chicago’s South Side, and after graduation from high school Mount Carmel High School attended the University of Chicago, graduating in 2011 with Honors in Political Science.  He then attended the John Marshall Law School, and became a licensed attorney in the State of Illinois, and a member of the Chicago Bar Association.
In his campaign for mayor, Kozlar is hoping to bring about change for the city: a full, unbiased audit of our city finances, including pension reform for new employees who start in the year 2020.  Kozlar proposes shifting new employees to a 401K plan, with current employees and retirees grandfathered into their current pension program. He also pledges to donate $50,000 of his own salary to the local schools and community organizations within Chicago, each year. {https://chicago.suntimes.com}

On his website, Kozlar also promises to be an advocate for more resources for our veterans, to negotiate contracts efficiently and effectively to benefit our city as a whole, and to no longer kick the can down the road when it comes to our city’s finances.

In addition to Kozlar, the 14 candidates running for mayor include Gery Chico, Bill Daley, Amara Enyia, Bob Fioretti, La Shawn Ford, Jerry Joyce, Lori Lightfoot, Garry McCarthy, Susana Mendoza, Toni Preckwinkle, Neal Sales-Griffin, Paul Vallas and Willie Wilson.  Like Kozlar, Sales-Griffin also is a Mount Carmel alumnus.
