The wait is finally over:  the moment coaches and players have been waiting for since the first day of winter workouts; the reason why most students came to the school of their choice, to play in the Chicago Catholic League Blue Division.

This past Monday, the Mount Carmel Caravan and the Brother Rice Crusaders squared off to get the Blue Division underway. The Caravan, 18-1 going into the game, were able to get their 19th win on the season as they routed the Crusaders 10-0 in just five innings.

The Caravan came out swinging the bats hot as shortstop Jeremy Houston hit a two run double and Bobby Seymour knocked in two with a single to start off the first inning.

The Crusaders gave the Caravan a scare in the top of the fourth, getting runners on second and third, with only one out, but senior pitcher Nelson Munoz was able to get out of the jam, striking out the next two Crusader batters.

The Caravan bats came back to life in the bottom of the fifth, as they put up six runs, to end the game in just five innings. Senior Nick Wheeler, 1-2 with a 3B and RBI, junior Aj Lewis 1-4, 2B, RBI, and sophomore Bobby Seymour, 3-3, 3 RBI’s were among many who stood out in the game.

“We came out ready to play,” said senior outfielder Nick Wheeler. “We were all seeing the ball really well, and it showed.”

Munoz went the distance in a complete game shutout, with 3 hits, 0 walks and four strikeouts.

The Caravan will look to keep playing well as the CCL Blue schedule continues. They take on Brother Rice again on Tuesday and St Laurence on Wednesday and Saturday. Come out and support the team as they try to make a run to Joliet.
