La La Land – a real snoozer
La La Land has gotten considerable awards buzz, taking home nine Golden Globes, and already it is expected to win the most Academy Awards this year. Critics have raved about it nonstop since its release. Me, though? I found it rather boring.
I get that it’s something new. I’ll even say that it had a fairly decent score and some decent acting, with Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling giving great performances. However, the story itself seemed slow and hard to follow.
I went with five other friends – three guys and two girls. Honestly, four of them (including both girls) fell asleep, for they were just as bored as I was. I get that it isn’t really marketed towards my demographic, being a 16-year-old male, but still – EVEN THE GIRLS WANTED TO LEAVE! Even with some great performances, the story did not intrigue me in the slightest.
By the time the end of the movie came, I had nearly forgotten the main characters’ names (the only reason I remembered is because one of the final scenes showed the names). To be completely honest, I couldn’t tell you their names now, three weeks later. The story itself just didn’t merit remembering those details.
Look, I get that professional movie critics have raved about this movie. I guess to the movie world this may be something extraordinary. But for me…well, I just wish I had spent my money on something that didn’t make me want to fall asleep half way through.
