Cahue pursues labor of love
Any Mount Carmel student who has had business in the Discipline Office knows Mrs. Nydia Cahue, whose job as Administrative Assistant involves taking attendance, filing discipline reports, issuing detention lists and making sure the office runs smoothly. But those students may not know that Cahue also is a wife, mother, grandmother, and an active member of the Pullman community where she resides.
Cahue, who has worked with Padre Benjamin Aguilar, Dean of Discipline, for 11 years, is a fixture at Mount Carmel, which has become her second home. “I love the MC students . . . they are all well mannered and are very respectful toward me. I love my job.” In fact, the only part of her day Cahue dislikes is having to call parents with bad news about their son’s behavior.
The mother of three adult-childern, two of whom are graduates of Mount Carmel, and a grandmother of two, Cahue has little free time after work. However, she loves watching her children and her husband play baseball. She also enjoys getting involved in her neighborhood, where she formerly volunteered with the Pullman Girls’ Youth Group and as a tour guide at the Pullman House.
Over their many years working together, Padre has come to know Cahue as “a person who values and lives loyalty. She cares very much about the students, and the tradition of this school.”
Like so many others who serve the Mount Carmel community in quiet ways, it’s clear that Cahue has become part of the fabric of Mount Carmel. As senior Gabe Bustoz suggests, “Without her the school would collapse.”
