Big investment looks to pay off

The brick turns out to be red once the grime is removed.

With a new school year comes change. While students were enjoying the summer break, Mount Carmel received a $185,000 make-over. The new-look building includes new windows, tuck pointing, and a brick wash. The summer-long project has come to an end, but there is much more in store for Mount Carmel.

A big investment for Mount Carmel hopes to pay dividends in the future. David Lenti, one of the leaders of this project, speaks about the new windows as being “energy efficient and modern.” The energy efficient windows look to save the school money but also “make students more comfortable in the classroom.”

Since the last time Mount Carmel had new windows was over 50 years ago, the new windows are a major upgrade for a new, modern learning environment. One of the most attention grabbing details of the renovation was the brick wash. It  completely changed the color of the school. One alumnus in particular talked about how he “always thought the building was a dirty brown, but now realize it was always a dirty red color.”

Many changes have occurred as part of a three-phase project for a new Mount Carmel. With new athletic facilities, new classrooms, and new windows phases one and two are complete. Phase three, which will focus on the inside of the school building, is the next step towards creating a new Mount Carmel.
