Spring trips to expose students to new cultures

Spring break is a great time to relax and enjoy moments with friends or family. It also serves as a great time to get things done, such as make up work or pick-up extra hours at your part-time job. However, some Mount Carmel students such as senior Jonah Nuno-Sheldon will be taking the week as an opportunity to explore a new culture and observe what it’s like to live in a foreign country.

This spring, Mount Carmel will be connecting with EF tours for two different European trips. One group will be going to two countries, while a second group will visit four. Nuno-Sheldon, along with his classmates Michael Melchiorre and Gilbert Tyson, seem especially excited about their opportunity to visit Italy and Spain.  Along with the other students and chaperones, they look forward to visiting museums, enjoying restaurants, and roaming the countries in small groups.

Mr. Antonio Mota, Mount Carmel Spanish teacher, will be the principal chaperone for this year’s trip  to Italy and Spain accompanied by Theology teacher Mr. Jonathan Nelson.  Mota is confident that the trip will be a success.  “Everything should go well and I’m excited for the students to be able to experience this, and for many it’s the first time.”

Nuno-Sheldon says “It’ll be a good experience for me, and I’m very excited.”

The second trip, which will be led by Latin teacher, Mr. Sean Sweany, will take eight students to Ireland, Wales, England and Paris. Four of the 11 days will be spent in Ireland, while just one or two days in each of the other countries.

“I’m really excited too see some amazing places,” states Sweany, who is most excited to go to Wales because he’s never been there before. “All the trees and nature will make the trip very relaxing.”
