Spring break is in the air

Its been a long time since MC students have seen blooming trees and flowers.

Around this time of year just about everyone is ready for spring and vacation.  The Easter break, which begins Thursday, is the most talked about topic and Mount Carmel students are excited to have time away from school. From April 2 through April 13, students will be enjoying the change in season, relaxing at home or going on family vacations.

For many people spring is the time of the year that is devoted to spring cleaning or family oriented events such as vacations.

Senior Deanti Nichols will be taking a road trip down to Jackson, Mississippi, to spend time with his father. “Every spring break I go down south to spend more time with him and soak up the sun,” said Nichols.

It will take him about 12 hours to get from Chicago to Jackson. They will be fishing, planting flowers in their garden, and enjoying the weather at the beach together. Nichols sees this as an opportunity to get active and learn new skills from his father, that he otherwise wouldn’t learn back home. “Fishing is something I’ve always enjoyed, I hope to get better at it; maybe I could compete one day.”

Nichols’ senior classmate Lawrence Cochran will be traveling to Colorado Springs, Colorado, to spend time with his cousin who is a music producer. Cochran is well known throughout MC’s hallways for his singing, so this trip doesn’t surprise anyone a bit. He is very excited about his trip, saying, “My cousin is my inspiration; he taught me a lot of things about music and I anticipate learning much more.”

While other students will be enjoying spring break in other ways, everyone will have the chance to relax and recharge before the home stretch of the school year.
