New CBN staff hopes to excite Caravan fans everywhere
As a new football season comes around, a new “season” also begins for the Caravan Broadcast Network (CBN). This year, many changes have been made to the program, and the new staff hopes these changes can benefit Mount Carmel in the long run.
CBN is a student activity that broadcasts Caravan football games, home basketball games, and Senior Nights for all sports offered at MC. The network also films the school’s commencement ceremony at Rockefeller Chapel, and creates marketing videos for Mount Carmel.
The biggest change to CBN this year is the entirely new broadcast crew. Key members of this year’s team include Rudy Melchiorre (play-by-play commentator), Jack Spellman (color commentator), Conor Langs (producer), Stanley Heimke (cameraman/photographer), and Colin Sage (cameraman/photographer). All are juniors who were a part of CBN in past years, but are now critical members of the team.
There is also a new moderator for the broadcast network: Mr. Tom Scanlan ’12, taking over for Mike Himes. As an alum returning to Mount Carmel as a faculty member, Scanlan is excited to continue the CBN program. He believes that the best part of CBN is “the fact that the kids learn not just to broadcast, but . . . communication skills that they can use in college.”
Another change is that this year, viewers must pay a $40 annual fee to view CBN’s broadcasts. Once they have subscribed, they will notice still other changes to the program, including interactive questions and more lengthy pregame, halftime, and post game shows. Melchiorre and Spellman plan to feature Mount Carmel faculty members in some of those interviews, and so far this season, have featured both Scanlan and Mr. Jeff Enright. Scanlan also hopes to incorporate halftime highlights later this season.
