Top 5 burgers for all you fanatics

Roberto Del Real Jr.

Weber’s Wisconsin burger with a side of fries comes in at #1 burger for Roberto Del Real.

I’m always on the hunt for my next “best” burger. So here is my list for all you burger fanatics, who like me, want to try the top five burgers I’ve ever enjoyed.

#5: Maxwell Street Depot on 411 W 31st St, Chicago, IL 60616 is open all night to the college students nearby, but also available for burger lovers. This small place offers quick, flavorful burgers with simple ingredients, onions and mustard for a price of $4.75. It’s a very simple cheeseburger, but simple is sometimes better, and this is definitely one of those.

#4: Shake Shack- The first location to ever open in Chicago is at the intersection of Ohio & Rush Streets in River North. These burgers are very filling and each condiment offers just the right amount of flavor. The SmokeShack cheeseburger topped with appplewood smoked bacon, chopped cherry pepper, and shack sauce is only $9.49 for a double. It was hard deciding whether this was number 3 or 4 on my list, but In-N-Out Burger definitely has a better sauce that provides a punch from the first bite.

#3: In-N-Out Burger- Although there isn’t an In-N-Out in Chicago, it’s very popular on the West Coast and slowly expanding eastward. The burger is a juicy and flavorful with fresh ingredients: “We don’t freeze. We don’t pre-package. We don’t over-process” is stated on In-N-Out’s website. That is something they take pride in at the franchise. You definitely taste all the fresh ingredients – from the chopped lettuce, tomatoes, and onions – to the two beef patties that are still sizzling from the flattop. If that isn’t enough flavor, they even put their own sauce on the burger that really makes it savory. If you ever catch yourself at In-N-Out, I recommend getting everything “Animal Style” if you’re up for gaining a few pounds.

#2: Five Guys Burger and Fries is basically the build-it-yourself burger; you get to choose up to any of the 15 free toppings. What I prefer is a Bacon CheeseBurger that’s only $7.89. I top it with pickles, mayo, lettuce, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, mustard, and ketchup. The reason it falls short of becoming #1 is because the more toppings that are added on the burger the sloppier the burger becomes, with everything falling off due to the bread becoming soggy. The burger is still quite delicious because it’s made right there, and by the time you eat it, the cheese is oozing, but nobody wants a burger that is falling part.

#1: Weber Grill Restaurant comes in at #1 on my top 5 burger list with four locations in the Midwest. The Weber I dine at is in Downtown Chicago on State Street. Weber offers succulent charcoal grilling flavors. What I prefer when dining at Weber is the Wisconsin burger that is topped with De Mill Cheddar Cheese and Morrel Cherrywood Smoked Bacon. This burger could definitely fill someone up depending on the size you choose, from a 1/3 lb for 11.50 or 1/2 lb for $13.50 . Choose either one and you’ll definitely be satisfied because the burger is sensational.

Happy eating!
