Justin Fekete illustrates Carmel values

Justin Fekete demonstrates what a true Man of Carmel is by helping those in need.

What defines the Men of Carmel? The answer to this question is simple:  they just prove it by their selflessness.

One senior who exemplifies this Carmel value is Justin Fekete, who organized a project to collect everyday personal necessities such as toothpaste and soap for the homeless. He was motivated by a desire to address an obvious problem. “I saw a need in the community of Chicago and I worked to lessen the burden of the homeless people in the winter months.”

Fekete believes that since he is blessed with many great opportunities in his life – from attending private school to owning his own car – it would be a wonderful opportunity to give back to those less fortunate.

The project was not without challenges.  “It was tough, it took more time than what I originally anticipated.” While Fekete did not set any specific  goals,  convinced that anything he did would be an accomplishment

Fekete, who ranks among the top 10% in the Class of 2017, invited the entire school community to participate. “I just wanted to do my part and I hoped others would too. And they definitely did.”

While Fekete did not disclose the amount of personal items that were donated, noting that “All that matters is that people wanted to help those in need.”  The only personal reward he sought was the success of the effort.

Men of Carmel do not walk away from people in need: they do the opposite.  One of the best examples of this is senior Justin Fekete.
