Vogt to pursue unique major at SLU
This incoming fall, Ryan Vogt will be taking a different route from other MC seniors. He will be attending Saint Louis University, where he will pursue a bachelor’s degree in Science in Nursing.
Vogt knew SLU was the right fit once he stepped on campus. The nursing program appealed to him, since “unlike most schools, SLU has a direct admit nursing program.” The school’s direct admit program allows students to begin their nursing studies in their freshman year. In addition, SLU is ranked as a top-35 nursing school in the nation.
The other factor in Vogt’s decision was the feel of the campus, and that, “It is a little warmer in St. Louis than it is in Chicago.”
Another unique aspect of SLU’s nursing programs is that only 15 of the 125 accepted students are males, so Vogt essentially will be transferring from an all-boys’ setting to a near-all-girls’ environment. He admits that it may be a big change at first, but it won’t let it stop him from reaching his goals.
“I will try to continue to work as I always have and not get intimidated from being one of the few boys in the classes. It will definitely be strange because I do not look for attention in class, but I will automatically stand out to teachers.”
After completing his degree, Vogt hopes to work in a hospital and then become a flight nurse, specializing in providing care for patients being transported to hospitals.
This is the second in an mcccaravan.org series profiling college plans of the Class of 2017.
