Gatorade is arguably one of the most popular drinks ever to have been in the fridges of gas stations, supermarkets, and kitchens. With over twenty flavors available for purchase, everyone has a personal preference.

Since the creation of the original lemon-lime in 1965 by Robert Cade, Gatorade has produced many new flavors and even more arguments as to which is the best. With Mount Carmel being sponsored by Gatorade, we have had access to several of the most familiar flavors that have been around for years. But some students love t try the more unique flavors that are harder to find.

Brenden Butts ’18 believes that the title of best Gatorade flavor should go to “Limon y Cucumber” (lime and cucumber).  “It’s very different from others, and the flavors of the cucumber and lime really go well with together.”

Personally, I am not a fan of this flavor. In fact, it probably would be my least favorite. The salty taste of the lime is very unusual, and I don’t think it goes well with any beverages. Also, I dislike cucumbers, so that plays a major role in my rejection of this choice.

One of Butts’ classmates, Alfredo Franco ’18, votes  for “Pineapple-Mango Flow” as the best. ” What I really like about this flavor is that it’s very smooth. You can drink it whether it’s hot or cold, it’ll taste good regardless.”

Franco makes an interesting point.  I have tried it myself and it’s a flavor that I would get again. However, I disagree that it is equally good warm or cold.  In my opinion, pineapple-mango tastes better when it’s in a cup of ice. I tried it warm and it wasn’t as good.

My personal favorite of all time has to be “Blue Cherry.” This flavor definitely tastes good whether it’s warm or cold. I still remember the first time I ever tried it.  I went into my local corner-store.  As I passed the Gatorade section I saw the new flavor on the shelf and I was intrigued. I purchased it and took it home to try it out. I opened the cap, took a sip, and at that moment realized that Blue Cherry was the best Gatorade flavor ever. It was so good that I had to go right back to purchase more because I had finished the first one instantly.
