Seniors explore Northwestern, UIC campuses

On October 29, a handful of seniors enjoyed a college visit with Mr. James Peltzer and Mrs. Shanta’ Wheeler to Northwestern University and University of Illinois at Chicago. The full day field trip enabled seniors to explore their interest in two local universities.

The group first travelled north on Lake Shore Drive to the Northwestern campus, located on the lakefront in Evanston. Northwestern is a very up to date and beautiful university.  Founded in 1851, Northwestern boasts of a great tradition and a very rich history.

Northwestern is a highly selective, private university with an admissions rate of 11%. Its many well-known alumni include singer Pharrell Williams, talk show hosts Jerry Springer and Seth Meyers, and actor David Schwimmer.

After concluding the Northwestern tour seniors headed back south to UIC, which is just about a 20 minute drive from Mount Carmel. While Northwestern’s campus is full of trees and broad lawns, UIC is much more “urban concrete.”  Still, it is well maintained and is a decent size campus.

The MC students were interested in learning about the opportunities UIC offers for internships and jobs in downtown Chicago.  Another attractive aspect is the easy access to transportation.
