Baby Driver: an action film with something for everyone
My favorite movie of all-time has to be Baby Driver. Released on March 11, 2017, and directed by Edgar Wright, the movie has won many awards and features some famous actors such as Ansel Elgort, Lily James, Kevin Spacey, Eliza Gonzalez, Jon Hamm and Jamie Foxx. It is a movie that spans many film genres – comedy, action, drama, thriller, music, adventure and crime.
The main character is Baby, a teenager who is a music-loving orphan and talented getaway driver. The opening six-minute scene is one of the best opening scenes I have seen.
In the opening scene, while the rest of the gang rob a bank, the scene showcases an ’06 Subaru Wrx, and reveales the kind of teenager Baby is, After the gang gets in the car, Baby demonstrates his skill as a driver and evades the police. While the whole scene is unfolding, the musical score aligns perfectly with the mood of the movie. After they evade the police, they go back to the warehouse to where “Doc” is waiting for them.
Baby works for Doc, the leader of the gang who plans the robberies. The gang is full of different people and Doc never has the same people go on the same robbery. The only person that is the same is Baby, who drives the car.
Even though Baby is good at heart, he feels that he is pressured to be a driver for Doc. Along the way, Baby falls in love with Deborah at a diner where she works. She helps him speak up for himself.
Baby Driver is one of the few movies that I have seen more than once. In my opinion it appeals to a diverse audience and could hold interest for almost anyone.
