Milavickas rocks in math, guitar

Seniors Ethan Hansen and Holden Shamala practice for their presentation exam in guitar class.

Among the many electives available to Mount Carmel students, one of the best is guitar.

The class was started during the 2018-2019 school year by Mr. William Spakowksi. With his departure from the staff late in the summer, there was concern that the popular guitar program might not continue. That’s when mathematics teacher Mr. Dave Milavickas, a veteran guitar player, took up an additional role as the new guitar teacher.

Milavickas has always loved playing the guitar and showed off this talent at a pep rally last year, when he played along with the help of students from the drum line. When the opportunity to teach guitar opened up, he jumped at the chance .

Having a new teacher also includes new ways of teaching the students new lessons.

This can include changes in the type of music that students will learn to play.

Milavickas is also a veteran of the math department, currently teaching Algebra 2/Trigonometry and Geometry.

He admits that taking on this new course adds to his workload, and that some days get chaotic.

On the other hand, the opportunity to indulge a life-long passion, and share it with a new generation, makes it all worthwhile.
