Mr. Jeff Enright will speak at this year’s Honors Program Preview

Mount Carmel will host its Honors Program Preview on Tuesday, November,25,at 6pm in the Student Commons. Prospective students who excel academically and look to pursue Honors/AP classes are encouraged to attend.

This year’s Honors Program Preview will look to showcase Mount Carmel’s  “unique and competitive environment,” according to Claire Mattison, marketing specialist. The main focus will be The Ehrenstrom Scholars Fraternity, a new program that gives students extra academic opportunities, and provides competition for the top 25 students in each class.

Speaking at this year’s preview will be Fr.Tony Mazurkiwicz, O.Carm., Mr. John Stimler, and Mr. Jeff Enright. Enright, who is Dean of the Honors Program and moderator of the Ehrenstrom Scholars, has an important message for Tuesday’s guests. “I look for parents and prospective students to take away that Mount Carmel has an elite academic program.” He looks to cover many things in particular, including ” how Mount Carmel specializes in teaching gifted boys who learn differently.”

Mount Carmel alumni attend many of the nation’s top universities such as Harvard, Yale and Stanford. Mount Carmel offers advanced courses such as AP classes that can be taken sophomore, junior, and senior year. If students score high enough on the AP test at the end of the class, can provide students with college credits that save families college tuition money.

As an 8th grader I attended an Honors Program Preview, and found the event informative, as it showed the many opportunities that Mount Carmel offers for an honors student to excel and be challenged. I remember listening to an alumnus who was attending college at Harvard University speaking by video from his college campus. Mount Carmel does not try to hide that it is going to be challenging; in fact the school wants prospective students to know that it’s not going to be easy, but it will be very rewarding.

The Honors Program Preview is not meant to replace a regular Open House visit. At a regular open house, students get to witness all Mount Carmel programs and take a tour that includes presentations on various features of MC. The final Open House opportunity for prospective students will be offered on December, 4 at 6-8pm. Students are also can arrange an individual tour at other times.

Students interested in attending the Honors Open house must register before the event with either Mr. Bill Nolan at 773.324.1020, ext. 265 or directly online at mchs.org
