For many mothers, the Mount Carmel “Mom Prom” is a highlight event of the year.

One event that Mount Carmel mothers anticipate every year occurs on the first weekend in December. This Saturday, December 6, the annual ”Mom Prom” will take place in the Student Commons, as MC students bring their mothers to school for an evening of holiday dancing.

The event is especially appreciated by the many moms who seldom get to spend quality time with their sons. “It’s the one day of the year when I don’t have to worry about any sports going on,” says Cheri Walsh, mother of senior Cullen Walsh.

Since many mothers have several children with multiple activities going on, they are not able to do much with their own friends.  So for “Mom Prom,” many “couples” go as a big group, which always ends up with the mothers turning it into a memorable night out, beginning with a pre-dance event, either a get together at someone’s house or a gathering for dinner at a restaurant.

Although the dance takes place on a Saturday night, and some students would probably rather be anywhere else, it is a nice thing to do for your mother.  Given all the hard work and dedication that she gives up to send you to school here, it’s not asking much to give back one night.  It is a great opportunity to be able to spend time with your mom,” says senior Kevin Krahn.

Tickets are on sale at Mount Carmel for $35 per family, but if you haven’t bought your ticket yet, they will be on sale at the door. So if you don’t have anything going on – or even if you do – this is a great opportunity to spend quality time with your mother and friends.
