Senior Larry Kudaisi is one of three Speech Team members to advance to sectionals.

In just its fourth year, the Mount Carmel speech program continues to build, and will send Justin Fekete, Farouk Kudaisi, and Luke Ehrenstrom to sectionals Saturday at Homewood-Flossmoor High School.

As a team, MC did well in this year’s regionals, placing 6th overall, just one spot lower than last year.

Seniors Fekete (Impromptu Speaking) and Kudaisi (poetry reading) lead this year’s team.  Both placed second in their respective categories to earn a bid to sectionals. Junior Luke Ehrenstrom placed third in the Extemporaneous competition and advanced along with his teammates.

Fekete is a veteran of competition. Last year, he went down state in Radio Speaking, while this year he placed 8th in  regionals and did not advance in that category.

Kudaisi also competed in more than one event in the regionals, placing 10th in Informative Speaking.

Besides the three who will advance, many others placed well. Juniors Patrick McKay and Anthony Morales placed 7th in the Dramatic Duet Acting, while McKay also placed in 5th in Dramatic Interpretation (just one place from securing his spot in sectionals). Morales also missed the cut-off in his event, Prose Reading, by just one spot.

Finally, senior Dominic Antonetti placed 7th in the Special Occasion Speaking and sophomore Xavier Smith competed in Original Oratory and placed 8th.

This year also marked for first year head coach, Lorenzo Nunez.   Last year he was one of the assistants to Mr.Dennis Brumirski, and took the reins of the team when Brumirski moved on.
