A memorable night at “Mom prom”

On Saturday, December 1, Mount Carmel hosted its annual Mother-Son Dance, or as students call it, the “Mom Prom.” The dance took place from 8:00 to 10:30 pm in the Student Commons. This fun filled night is an opportunity to dance with some of your best friends from school and to meet their mothers, if you never have had the chance before.

Before the dance, many mothers and sons get together with other couples for dinner at nearby restaurants like Piccolo Mondo and South Shore Country Club. This gives the mothers a chance to get to know each other, or to spend time together if they already are acquainted.

The dance is hosted by the Alumni Mothers Club, who decorate the Commons beautifully Christmas lights and various decorations.  The part includes lots of treats and drinks, as well as a raffle with some awesome prizes included a hand-made quilt and gift baskets.

The best part of the evening obviously is the dancing. Near the end of the night, each class gets the opportunity to take the dance floor with their mothers for a slow dance. For senior mothers, it tends to get a bit emotional.

The Mother-Son dance is a wonderful experience, and something to look forward to every year as a student and a mother.
