Seniors explore college opportunities
On Thursday October 2, Mount Carmel seniors and juniors had the opportunity to attend a college fair hosted by Bishop Noll Institute. Over 30 colleges from around the Midwest were present.
Among the colleges represented were Purdue, Indiana, Illinois, Ball State, Northern Illinois, Southern Illinois, Saint Xavier and Concordia. Students interacted with representatives from each college to find out about location, housing, programs and admission requirements.
For some students, opportunities for internships also factor into their choice of a college. For example, students in the journalism program at Concordia University have interned with the Chicago Bulls, which would provide great experience.
Mount Carmel counselor Jim Peltzer, who organized the trip, saw it as a chance for students to consider some schools that might not have been on our radar.
“Hopefully it opened some of their eyes to schools they might not have otherwise been interested in.”
Peltzer added that another important opportunity is the Mount Carmel College Fair, scheduled for Thursday, October 24 from 6-7:30 p.m. in the Cacciatore Athletic Center. Representatives from over 60 colleges and the armed forces will be in attendance to provide information on their respective programs.
