The Father-Son Dinner getting under way

On October 23, the Mount Carmel Fathers’ Club held its annual Father-Son Dinner in the Cacciatore gym. This event brings students and dads together to participate in raffles, hear guest speakers, and enjoy good food.

This year’s dinner featured salad, pasta, chicken parmesan and garlic bread, all served by alumni of the Fathers’ Club. After dessert, fathers and sons settled in to listen to guest speaker John “Jurko” Jurkovic.

Jurkovic is an ESPN radio speaker and an ex-NFL football player for the Green Bay Packers, Jacksonville Jaguars and Cleveland Browns. “Jurko” grew up in Calumet City, Illinois, and played football for Thorton Fractional North. Mount Carmel was one of his high school options, but it never happened.

After the guest speaker, there were several raffles. Prizes included $400 from the “Split the Pot” raffle, and door prize raffles that awarded Blackhawk tickets, a 32 inch TV, and a Mount Carmel flag.

With all of the fun things that were going on in the dinner, the best part is spending time with either your son or father at this annual Fathers’ Club tradition.
