Drones are pretty RAD

Senior Aidan Rodgers and Sophmore Dan Walsh proudly display the RAD championship trophy.

This past Sunday MC took part in the RAD high school championship, a  challenge that includes drones delivering packages, as well as racing drones around a pre-determined course.

Mount Carmel’s team of Aidan Rodgers, Dan Walsh and Robert Sanchez-Szewczyk took home the Ace Award, signifying 1st place in the package-delivering event.  The team will compete at the RAD World Championship in Kentucky in April.

A second Caravan RAD team, consisting of Owen Duignan, Devin Jones, Ahmad Raoul and Jack Brown, also earned 1st place in the racing event.

Sophomore Dan Walsh acted as the spotter for Rodgers and the package-delivery team through the parts of the delivery course that were not visible to him.  After the team’s victory, he spoke about his interest in the activity, and encouraged others to get involved.

“It’s just really fun.”

Walsh admitted that while he enjoyed the delivery event, and is looking forward to traveling to Kentucky, he would like to become a part of the racing team in future competitions.

We wish our Caravan RAD team the best of luck at the World Championships in April.
