Gilbert Tyson is one of just five returning varsity players for Caravan basketball.

Coming off a great season last year, the Caravan basketball team looks to get right back on track this year.  But with only five current seniors returning from last year’s varsity, there are a lot of openings for current juniors to fill.

“We are counting on some juniors to come up and be a factor,” says one of the returning seniors, forward Emmanuel Okafor. “In order for us to be successful as a team, we need guys to come off the bench and be effective. We can’t just play the same five guys the whole game and stay with teams, especially in the CCL.”   The Caravan will start its  Catholic League home schedule on December 9, 2014 against St. Rita.

Although practice officially started just last week, the Caravan look forward to playing in the Lane Tech/Gordon Tech Thanksgiving Tournament, which begins on November 24.  That tournament should offer an early look at how the new players are beginning to jell.

“We want to make sure that we get better throughout the season. In order for us to achieve our goals and win the Catholic League South, we need to progress as a team,” says senior Gilbert Tyson.

Between now and then, the emphasis is on preparation.  “We have worked very hard this offseason,” observed Krahn.   “We want to make sure that it wasn’t all a waste of time.”
