High Expectations for “Windy City” football

A common question that is asked at the end of the NFL season is, “Where will this head coach be next year?” This was the question for the Chicago Bears and many of their fans this offseason.

After firing Marc Trestman after just two years, they brought in a familiar face to the NFL, John Fox,  who has a reputation of turning programs around. He was with Carolina for 13 years and Denver for four.

“I just want to see the Bears play in the super bowl very soon,” says MC junior and  loyal fan Andrew Guerra. With the record that Fox has, Guerra believes he can get them there.

Another addition to the Bears coaching staff is offensive coordinator Adam Gase. Gase was in Denver with Fox the past four seasons and served as the wide receivers coach and quarterback coach before being promoted to offensive coordinator.

Two more coaches who have been added to the organization this offseason are Frank Smith and Jason George. Smith was in New Orleans for the past five years, working mainly with the tight ends and in all aspects of the offense. He will have the opportunity work with pro bowl tight end Martellus Bennett next year, after working with Jimmy Graham for the past couple years.

George will be the strength and conditioning coach this upcoming year. After being with Fox and Gase in Denver these past two years, they look to turn the Bear’s organization around.

The Bears have also agreed with three other assistants to join the staff. Dave Magazu (offensive line), Sam Garnes (assistant defensive backs), and Derius Swinton II (assistant special teams) also look forward in joining the staff for the upcoming year.

Magazu has spent the last 12 seasons under Fox in Carolina and Denver. Garnes, another member of Fox’s staff in Carolina and Denver, and has been with him the past four seasons. Swinton has been coaching in the league for six years, including the past two on Fox’s staff in Denver.

“Signing these coaches is making me very anxious for the season to start,” says another MC junior, Gavin Quintero.

With the success that Fox and his staff has had in the recent years, many Bears fans will be hoping that these moves will be steps in the right direction.
