MC Sports highlights
May 30: The spring sports schedule concluded over the weekend with an 8th place finish in the 400 meters for Dave Rogers at the state track finals, and disappointing losses in baseball and lacrosse in state regional competition. However, the Caravan received great news today as junior Alek Thomas was announced as the Illinois High School Baseball Player of the Year!
May 25: MC was declared the winner by forfeit in yesterday’s re-scheduled IHSA regional baseball game, after scheduling issues prevented Argo from participating. On Saturday, the Caravan will face the winner of the first round game between Reavis and Morton. The game is scheduled for 11 AM on Haggerty Field.
The lacrosse team defeated Montini 12-0 in a rain-soaked match on Wednesday afternoon. The nex game is on Saturday at 10:30 Am on Carey Field.
May 24: Due to yesterday’s rainy weather, the IHSA regional baseball game against Argo has been rescheduled for 4 PM afternoon on Haggerty Field, while the lacrosse match at Montini will take place at 5:30 PM.
May 23: MC baseball takes on Argo in the IHSA regional at 4PM today, while lacrosse team battles Montini at 5:30. Congratulations to LAX Head Coach Matt McGuire and to Senior Noah Swisshelm, both of whom received the Lawless Award from the Chicago Catholic League.
May 22: It was a busy weekend for the Caravan. Congratulations to the lacrosse team which captured the school’s first conference championship in lacrosse, and to senior Bob Seymour who won the Lawless Award for baseball on Sunday (the highest honor for a Catholic League athlete).

May 16: After a tough couple of weeks, Caravan baseball righted the ship last night with a 5-4 victory over the Crusaders at Br. Rice.
May 11: Yesterday, due to the rain, the tennis team’s match against the Saint Laurence Vikings was canceled. However, baseball played through the weather and defeated Marmion Academy after scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Caravan water polo team sadly ended its season with a loss to the Saint Ignatius Wolfpack.
May 10: Congratulations all around today: to the lacrosse team for winning the championship in the CCL White Division; to the water polo team for defeating Juarez in overtime (14-12) in sectional competition; and to both the varsity and JV rugby teams, which earned impressive victories against St. Ignatius.
May 9 update: MC Rugby takes on St. Ignatius tonight at 5 PM on Carey Field – and it’s Senior Night! Meanwhile, the water polo team competes in the IHSA Sectional tonight at Juarez High School. Come out to support one or the other!
May 8 update: The Caravan varsity baseball team lost to the Celtics on Saturday by the score of 12-9. The second game of the series will be played today at Providence.
May 5 update: MC Lacrosse defeated Whitney Young on Carey Field yesterday by a score of 10-5. Meanwhile, on Haggerty Field, St. Rita’s Mustangs jumped off to a 2-0 first inning lead and held off a Caravan rally to prevail 6-5. After the game, coaches from both teams joined their Catholic League colleagues at the annual CCL Banquet, during which MC Head Baseball Coach Brian Hurry was inducted into the league’s Hall of Fame.
May 4 update: Following yesterday’s 10-4 victory against the Mustangs at St. Rita, the Caravan and their long-time rivals rematch this afternoon at 4 PM on Haggerty Field. Before the game, Mount Carmel will pay tribute to Mustang Head Coach Mike Zuniga – who will retire from coaching after this season.
April 26 update: The Caravan baseball team is back in the win column after losing two games in a row to the St. Laurence Vikings, defeating the Loyola Ramblers 14-1 yesterday.
April 25 update: Yesterday, the Caravan baseball team fell in a disappointing 5-4 loss against the St. Laurence Vikings after giving up four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. The water polo team defeated Shepherd High School 8-6. The tennis team faced off against Morgan Park Academy, though the Warriors were unable to bring a full team. The Caravan won four of the five matches played.
April 24 update: Congratulations to the lacrosse team which won the Sticks and Stones Classic tournament in West Chicago with a victory over Neenah High School. Sophomore Anthony (Boomer) Kubik was named defensive MVP for his work in goal, and senior Noah Swisshelm won the sportsmanship award.
April 11 update: Yesterday, the rainy weather postponed the baseball game to today. The water polo team, however, lost in an upsetting 22-18 defeat to the St. Rita Mustangs. The Caravan volleyball team also lost to the Fenwick Friars, so it wasn’t a good day for MC sports.
April 10 update: Over the weekend, the Caravan baseball team scored another win with a 9-4 victory over the Fenwick Friars, while the rugby team also defeated the Friars on Friday, with a score of 28-17. The lacrosse team unfortunately fell in overtime to the Marist Redhawks on Saturday. The track team participated on Saturday at the Stagg Varsity Boys Track and Field Invite.
April 5 update: Yesterday, the Caravan tennis team’s match was cancelled yet again due to weather. The volleyball team lost to the Saint Ignatius Wolfpack at Saint Igantius, while the baseball team defeated Richards in a whopping 10-4 victory and the lacrosse team defeated Marmion Academy 13-9.
March 31 update: Due to yesterday’s weather, the baseball, tennis, rugby and lacrosse teams all got rained out. The games will be rescheduled for another time. The volleyball team, however, suffered a tough defeat to Marmion Academy.
March 30 update: The baseball team defeated Westmont High School on Wednesday evening in a whopping 11-2 victory, continuing its impressive season. Today’s scheduled game in Peoria has been cancelled due to rain.
March 29 update: Yesterday, the Caravan baseball team defeated Harlan High School at Haggerty Field by the score of 7-4. The Caravan lacrosse and tennis teams faced off against the Fenwick Friars. Lacrosse came out on top, with an 11-8 victory, while the tennis team fell to the Friars.
March 24 update: Spring sports are in full session here at MC. Last night, three of our sports teams were scheduled to play. The Caravan baseball team defeated Kenwood High School 9-4 at Haggerty Field. The tennis team had a tough night, dropping all of its matches to the Saint Ignatius Wolfpack at Jackson Park. Unfortunately, the lacrosse team’s game against Carl Sandburg High School in Tinley Park was cancelled due to lightning.
