Wrestling qualifies 8 for state; Drousias emerges as State Champion

The Mount Carmel wrestling team had an early dismissal on Friday, February 8th for sectionals. Wrestlers that traveled to the tournament Jordan Blew, Colton Drousias, Rehan Uribe, Noah Mis, Alex Lalezas, Colby Lopez, Michael Kelly, Connor Gaynor, Miles Hoey, Andrew Mulay, Ashton Breen, Asa Terrell, Dan Benoit, Robert Bowman, Nik Mishka, A.J. Alexander and Jalen Grant.

Junior Asa Terrell noted that the sectional “was very competitive, and there were lots of upsets during the matches.”

Coming out of the sectionals, eight MC wrestlers qualified for the individual state finals at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign last weekend.  They included Jordan Blew {106 pounds}Colton Drousias {113 pounds}, Rehan Uribe {120pounds} Noah Mis {126, 132pounds}, Miles Hoey {145pounds}, Dan Benoit {182pounds}, and Nick Mishka {220pounds}

Among the teams sending wrestlers to the finals were some of the strongest programs in the state, including Montini, Marmion, OPRF, Lockport, and Dekalb.

Mount Carmel junior Colton Drousias emerged as a State Champion in the 113 weight class.
