Caravan falls in sectionals

The Caravan varsity baseball team ended its 2019 season with a 3-2 loss to St. Rita’s Mustangs on Thursday, May 30.

Because of wet field conditions at St. Rita, the game was played at Ozinga field (formerly called Standard Bank Field) in Crestwood.

Despite the loss, Coach Brian Hurry’s program earned its fifth consecutive IHSA regional tittle, with victories over Kenwood Academy and Lyons Township in the regional series played at Haggerty Field.

The future looks bright for the Caravan, as all but two starting position players will retun next season, including nationally ranked shortstop Ed Howard.

The baseball team added its reginal title to those won by other Mount Carmel sports this spring, including volleyball, waterpolo and lacrosse.
