On February 2, 2026, Mount Carmel had the biggest Signing Day in school history with twenty-five signees. Seniors from different sports officially signed to play at the next level.
The Alumni Gym was packed with family members and coaches of each of the student athletes, making it a momentous day for everyone.
Baseball player Mario Medina, who committed to Davenport University, said the day was truly special for him. “It really made me feel good,” Medina said. “My mom and my family were there, and just seeing all my teammates do it was great.”
Medina added that this was just a huge goal for him and how it really showed off his hard work to be able to play at the next level.
Wrestler Liam Kelly, who committed to the University of Illinois, also spoke on how good it felt to be with his buddies who were also signing, just showing how hard everyone had worked.
“It just feels great that all the work paid off,” Kelly said.
Kelly also spoke about how MC has been a huge help and an amazing place to be.
“You can’t find anywhere else what we have here,” he said. “Everybody’s close. There are also amazing coaches here that get you better everyday. They have been a big factor in what I have been able to do.”
Luke Segroves, a St. Norbert College basketball commit, had very similar feelings about Signing Day.
“It was pretty cool seeing all my friends that I’ve been friends with since freshman year,” Segroves said. “I just felt really proud of all of us.”
All the athletes had very similar responses, first by being proud of themselves, but then always mentioning their brothers around them, with whom they have been with for four years. It really shows how close MC students are and what type of community it is.
Caravan head baseball coach Brian Hurry spoke on why Signing Day is so important to the program.
“I say those are the real trophies,” Coach Hurry said. “We want to provide an experience here at Mount Carmel where guys do have an opportunity to play at the next level.”
This was a big focus for the coaches at MC. State championships are important for the school, but when kids are able to play at that next level for their sport, that’s the best kind of trophy, according to Coach Hurry.
He also mentioned that strong relationships get built over time when coaching. With a day like Signing Day, it makes him very proud of his players, and he admires each of their hard works because he knows all the sacrifices each kid has made.
Athletic Director, Caravan head basketball coach, and father of signee Luke, Phil Segroves, also spoke very highly of the day.
“It was a very proud day,” Segroves said. “We’ve never had that amount of seniors that have signed on to play at the next level.”
The day was historic, and Mr. Segroves noted that it was really huge for MC and shows what the school can do.
“Athletics is Mount Carmel’s front porch,” he said. Pairing that with what MC brings from the classroom side as well, this is the place to be.
Signing Day is a day full of joy and pride, but this is only the beginning of each student-athlete’s journey. The real work starts now by finishing out the year strong and getting on campus ready to succeed in the classroom and on the athletic field at the next level
MC is a highly accomplished school, and this Signing Day is yet another thing to celebrate in the school, showing how hard each kid works while also showing how great MC is.
