Mr. George Vrechek
Mr. George Vrechek is a part-time volunteer who assists as an instructor for the 21st Century Media class. He conducts classes on writing, grammar and punctuation. He arranges class trips to the Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun-Times and has brought journalists to lecture at Mount Carmel. Vrechek has been a freelance writer for Sports Collectors Digest magazine for 28 years and has written for other related publications. He was the editor of the business school paper at the University of Michigan. Vrechek was a principal in the firm of Harry Weese Associates, who were the architects for the Mount Carmel Priory and the Graham Center addition. Vrechek was a CPA and has BBA and MBA degrees from the University of Michigan. He began volunteering as a substitute teacher at Mount Carmel in 2009. He started working with the journalism and media classes in 2012, when he retired as the CFO of a Chicago engineering firm, Environmental Systems Design. He served as the chairman of the board of trustees for his alma mater, Fenwick High School, and has also served on boards for Dominican University, Frank Lloyd Wright Trust, Evans Scholars, Catholic Charities, St. Gregory High School, the Village of Oak Park and other organizations. Vrechek and his wife Susan live in Chicago. Susan is a volunteer at Trinity High School in River Forest. He is a former Catholic League football official; his hobbies include painting, cycling and hockey.
