Welch to lead campus ministry, Impact program

Mr.Gregory Welch takes over as the campus minister at Mount Carmel this year.

Mr. Gregory Welch is not only new to Mount Carmel, but he is also new to the city of Chicago. However, he is no stranger to change. Growing up in Indianapolis, his career has taken him from New Jersey to Ohio to Illinois.  Now he has ended up not far from from his original home home, but getting used to living in his first big city.”It takes time. but I’m getting there.”

At Mount Carmel, Welch takes on the challenge of being campus minister, along with teaching a few theology classes. He previously served as the campus minister for a high school in Ohio.

His biggest task will be organizing the Impact Program, which is new to Mount Carmel this year. This program will give students the opportunity to do week-long service projects that end with a retreat.

Welch attended college at Saint Meinrad in Indiana. After graduating, Welch returned to Saint Meinrad to explore the priesthood, but eventually decided to pursue a teaching career as a layman.

Outside of school Welch enjoys cooking. While he doesn’t have a particular favorite food, he joked, “The best kind of food is free food.” Along with his passion for cooking is a love of music, and Welch is very diverse in his taste. “I listen to anything.”
