McGovern returns to roots in Catholic education

When asked about Mount Carmel the first words that Mr. Phil McGovern offered were, “I love it here.  MC has great tradition, and I love the diversity.”

McGovern knows what it takes to work at a Catholic school, having graduated rom St. Ignatius College Prep. “I look forward to working at a Catholic school again.”

McGovern attended the University of Dayton, and said, “I loved it there; not too far, not too close. I highly recommend it.”  After college, he worked for eight years in the printing industry before deciding to teach. This year he will teach freshman and sophomore English, while managing time to coach the golf team.

His hobbies include reading and golfing, which he played in high school. “I played any sport that had a ball in it when I was younger, but now I play golf and hang with my friends.”

McGovern grew up in Beverly so he is familiar with the Chicago area where he still resides.  He appreciates the short commute, and looks forward to “bringing my knowledge to Mount Carmel and to my English classes.”
