Let the games begin

A week that is often loaded with excitement and fun at Mount Carmel is Spirit Week.”It is a fun and competitive week that always brings a lot of spirit to the student body,” says senior Dan Hogan.

Monday will start off with Roll Out Of Bed/Pajama Day. Many students look forward to this day because they don’t need to get ready for school and get to sleep in a little bit longer. The day will end with the annual student basketball tournament. It will be four teams: freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors who will face off in a single elimination tournament, with the winner playing the faculty.

Tuesday is the St. Baldrick’s fundraiser.  Students, faculty, and others raise money and shave their heads to help support cancer research. Students are required to wear green in the support of this event, with games such as Cheeto Beard and others to end the event.

Wednesday will be one of the more famous dress down days with Jersey Day. Students will get to show off their team jerseys from their past, or even the newest jersey they have purchased. The day will end with the annual Taste of MC.  The different clubs and sports will make food and sell it to all of the students and faculty to raise money. The clubs also have different games set up in the gym such as three point contest, Super Smash Bros tournament, darts, chariot races, and, what seems to be the students’ favorite, sumo wrestling.

Thursday is mass dress code and we will celebrate the mass of St Joseph’s. Students will be able to wear a red dress shirt with their suit and tie.  There will be no other events on this day.

Friday will end the week with arguably the most fun and spirit-filled day with the Just Because Games. The four different grade levels will be separated by colors. The freshmen wear pink, sophomores yellow, juniors red, and the seniors will be in blue. All of the students from the different grade levels will compete against each other by playing multiple games. The new featured game this year will be Hungry Hungry Hippos.

“It is a week that the students really look forward to,” says Hogan, so let the games begin.
