Ms. Caitlin Sherlock has known what Mount Carmel was about since she was a kid.  “The first song I ever learned was the Mount Carmel fight song,” she noted, remembering her childhood memories of watching Brown and White games as her dad coached.

In fact, while she was in high school at Marist, she found it hard to root for her school’s boys’ teams because of her loyalty to Mount Carmel.

Coming from what may be the first four-generation family in school history, Sherlock joined Mount Carmel’s faculty this summer as the newest member of the McDermott Doyle program.

Originally from Beverly, Sherlock graduated from Marist High School. She went on to earn her undergraduate degree from University of Illinois/Chicago, and then received her master’s degree from National-Louis University.

Before coming to teach at Mount Carmel, Sherlock worked with Chicago Public Schools for four years. Because of her family history at Mount Carmel, she had always wanted to work here. After seeing a teaching position that was posted on the school’s website, she applied and was hired last spring.

Coming to Mount Carmel after teaching at a public school involved quite a transition. Class size and the school in general are a lot smaller at Mount Carmel, which she experiences as a good thing.

Sherlock believes that she can bring some new ideas to Mount Carmel. While she is not involved in any extracurricular activities yet, she hopes to get involved soon, perhaps by introducing intramural 16-inch softball.
