Seniors Kalen Blakemore and Bryan Lewis were among the MC seniors who led the way all season.

With Coach Segroves leading them, MC varsity basketball players have made a big improvement compared to last year. MC started the playoffs strong beating Noble Butler and then defeated Lindblom 56-53. On March 5, MC challenged Morgan Park High School, the number one seed in the St. Laurence IHSA Sectional, with hopes of advancing further into the playoffs.

MC played a hard fought game, but eventually fell 63-43. Lawless Award winner and the Sun Times All City finalist Josh Redic scored 18 points and had 11 rebounds. Scoring 9 points was Arinze Egbuna, a CCL All Conference finalist.

Despite falling short, MC proved that this season was a turnaround, finishing the season 23-9, and winning its first regional title since 2016. This feat truly set them apart from the previous few years, and the seniors certainly left a good foundation for next year’s team.

Basketball and sports at MC bring the community closer together. As we saw against Morgan Park, a large contingent of MC faculty and students was on hand to support their basketball team. As Coach Segroves noted in addressing the school community in the afternoon announcements on Wednesday, the support the team received showed how tightly knit the MC community really is, and what it is like to be part of something bigger than yourself.
