Prom, for many high school seniors, is a huge event. Dresses need to be bought, plans need to be made, transportation needs to be arranged. However, most seniors find that it is a very enjoyable event with friends and recommend it to any underclassmen who aren’t sure about going. On Saturday, May 6, Mount Carmel held its Senior Prom along in the Crystal Garden at Navy Pier.

Prom began at 7:30 in the evening, though for most people, the night started much earlier. Many students, along with their dates, spent time before prom taking countless pictures to remember the night. Some met at someone’s house, while others found public places for a better background, like areas on the lake near Navy Pier. “I had a bunch of people over at my house with their dates to take pictures, and it was great having everyone together,” noted Alec Katalinic.

At the venue, a variety of food was served to those in attendance, including egg rolls, Italian styled pizza, lasagna, rib-eyed steak, gelato, creme brûlée, sliders, burgers, and hot dogs. “The gelato was definitely my favorite thing on the menu,” noted Jacob Correa. Then, DJ Mike P set the music for those in attendance to dance the night away.

Though prom officially ended at around 11:30 in the evening, the night was far from over for most seniors. Students concluded the night in a variety of ways, whether it was going out to dinner, attending an after-party, or going away with friends. Bob Pickert’s group “went out to eat after the dance, so I didn’t get home until after two in the morning.”  As you might expect, he was “pretty tired” the next day.

Nick Behzadi was one of a few MC seniors who chose not to attend the event.  Although after seeing how much fun people had, he noted that “I definitely should have gone. It would’ve been one of the last things I did with my friends before we graduate, so I regret choosing not to go.”
