Carlos Banks, Justin Carney, Robert Bonilla, Joe Bird, and Noah Sanchez were among the freshmen staring this fall at Mount Carmel.

Trimeter exams will be given from Wednesday, November 14, to Friday, November 16. There will be three exams on Wednesday (A,B,C), and two exams on both Thursday (D,E) and Friday (F,G). Both Thursday and Friday will be late starts with tests starting at 9:05 am. For freshmen this will be their first time experiencing a high school exam schedule.

According to Mount Carmel Principal John Haggerty, “The important thing for freshmen to understand is that the final grades at the end of their first trimester – like every trimester – became a part of their cumulative grade point average. That means these grades are just as important as the grades they will earn during their senior year.”

For some freshmen, the idea of a cumulative grade point average is a new challenge.

Mr. Scott Sortal of Mount Carmel’s Social Studies Department gave the following advice for the freshmen as they prepare for exams: “Keep a calendar, keep to the calendar, take breaks, eat breakfast and relax while you are taking your first finals.”

As he prepares, freshman Khalil Porter admitted “I am a little nervous, but the upperclassmen told me not to worry and to study, and I should be fine.”

Robert Dukes added, “I’m not really sure what I will see going into my finals, but I think I will do pretty good.”
