Mount Carmel students, including former graduate Ryan Noonan, have been supporting the annual blood drives for many years.

Mount Carmel held its second blood drive of the year on Tuesday, February 18.  As in the past, the event was organized by art teacher Mrs. Julie Chappetto, who has championed this cause for many years.

The blood drive was very successful, with 37 units of blood donated, surpassing the goal of 27 units.  This marked the best total in the last two years.
In addition to students, many of whom were first time donors, several faculty and staff donated blood, including Fr. Leopold Glueckert, Mr. John Stimler, Mr. Jordan Lynch, Mr. Jim Peltzer and Principal Scott Tabernacki.
Senior Brian Sullivan, who donated three pints of blood, had a simple reason for participating.
“I felt the need to donate blood because it makes me feel good that I might be helping someone with the donation I made.”
Dean of Students Dan O’Connor supported the effort by offering a detention pass for any student who donated blood.
Beside the importance of supplying blood to assist anyone needing transfusions, Mount Carmel benefits from the blood drive through scholarship money donated by the sponsoring organization, Vitalant.  Anyone who still would like to donate blood and credit Mount Carmel’s blood drive can do so at another Vitalant location.  Just give them the Mount Carmel code (Code 3444).
