Signing day was held at Mount Carmel on Wednesday, October 11, for senior athletes Connor Gaynor and Thomas Egan. On signing day student athletes sign letters to commit to a given college for sports; Egan signed to Iowa Western for baseball, and Gaynor signed to South Dakota State University for wrestling.

Egan and Gaynor are both excited and prepared to play sports at the college level. Both athletes have played in state championships and hope to make another state final appearance this spring.

Egan and Gaynor said they will both miss Mount Carmel. Their favorite memory was competing at the state championship last year. Egan and Gaynor stated that being a student athlete is going to be hard, but they are up for the challenge.

“Staying consistent in the class and on the mat is going to prepare for the next step,” says Gaynor.

Faculty and coaches participated in signing day, saying a few words about the athletes and motivating them to succeed at the next level.

“Tommy’s sophomore year he pitched a lot of great games against a lot of great teams; he has a lot of potential,” said Brian Hurry, Egan’s baseball coach.

“Connor wrestled with one of our greatest teams in Mount Carmel history, and his story isn’t over yet,” said Dan LaCount.
