Mount Carmel students gather around Father Jim Lewis, during the COVID-19 remembrance day prayer service.

On Wednesday, March 31, Mount Carmel held a prayer service for people who had died from COVID-19.

The service was led by Father Jim Lewis. Seniors Dylan Guijosa and Daniel Miller also participate reading passages from scripture. Theology teacher Jennifer Davis read the names of the many people connected to the Mount Carmel family who had died this past year due to COVID-19.

In brief remarks, Father Lewis began the ceremony by saying that our lives changed forever during the past year, noting how the worldwide death total is at 2.97 billion, and Illinois alone has seen at 564,ooo die.

Right before everyone was dismissed, Principle Scott Tabernicki announced that a new flag soon will be permanently displayed at Mount Carmel.  The new flag will read simply “We remember,” and will serve as a constant reminder to everyone of the people that unfortunately have died to COVID-19.
